The Phone Call
On March 27, 2020, a woman named Paige Ferguson walked into the Spring Valley area command police station in Las Vegas.
She wanted to report a strange phone call she had with a friend earlier that day. She had been talking with Tonya Dillard, who said she had killed and skinned a dog.
When Paige Ferguson expressed how disturbing she thought it was, Dillard said, “If you think that is strange, I am sitting next to a dead body.”
Dillard said that she and Jacob Berkovitz, her boyfriend, had found a man, Hector Mendez-Hernandez, on Craigslist under the guise of getting a ride to California.
At some point, Hector had picked them up and taken them to his house. It was there that Dillard said Hector tried to kiss her, which angered Berkovitz, causing him to start beating Hector.
Dillard said that Berkovitz then grabbed a gun and started to shoot. One bullet hit Dillard in the finger, but the others were aimed straight at Hector’s head.
To prove what she was saying, Dillard sent pictures of her bloody hand and the dead body.
