When it’s Good to Stay in Your Comfort Zone

We’re often told we need to step out of our comfort zone or we’ll never grow. Which might be great advice. But sometimes it’s not the right advice for you or the situation.

Writing for me is one of those areas. I need to be comfortable to do my best work. If I try to do something too far out of my comfort zone. It ends up coming across as strained and not sounding like me. Almost as if I’m holding back.

It’s those times when I’m comfortable with myself. Comfortable with the world around me and what I’m working on, that I really shine in my work. These are always the pieces I get the most praise for too.

Not that I don’t push myself. But I know what works for me.

Recently, I pushed myself to publish work under my own name. To put myself out into the world. Which was uncomfortable, but it was about trying something new.

When I sit down to do the work, especially since I’m working on a new platform. I make sure I am completely comfortable. I go into it with a clear head, I work in a spot I feel at ease in, and stick to what I know best, True Crime.

I also only started sharing on one new platform, to begin with. Because I know myself and if I push too hard, I’ll lose my confidence and end up quitting everything. I started with Medium, but I plan…
